After storms and tornadoes that tore through towns and cities in the Southern and Midwestern regions of the United States, at least 26 people have perished and several others have been injured.
Nine people died in Tennessee, four in nearby Arkansas, and four in Illinois, among the total. In Alabama, Mississippi, Alabama, and Indiana, additional deaths were reported.
More than 50 tornado reports were made during the tornado outbreak in at least seven states, including Tennessee and Arkansas, where many fatalities were reported. The tornadoes uprooted trees, tore off roofs from buildings, destroyed homes and businesses, and flung cars into the air.
In McNairy County, Tennessee, where rescue workers spent Saturday night searching amid collapsed structures, at least seven people perished as a result of two successive bands of storms.
